Medical Software Associates EMR Software Of Choice,
Suite Med EMR, Receives CCHIT Certification The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information
Technology (CCHITSM) today announced that the Suite Med EMR
meets the CCHIT ambulatory electronic health record (EHR) criteria for
2008. Ambulatory EHR programs are designed for doctors offices and medical
clinics, where most North Americans receive health care services.
The CCHIT is a recognized health information technology certification body in the United States. This group is a wholly independent not-for-profit organization which sets the standards for electronic health records. To become a CCHIT certified product, the Suite Med
EMR system has been tested and passed inspection of 100 percent of a comprehensive
set of criteria for: Functionality: This includes the ability
to create and manage electronic medical records for all patients, as well
as the ability to automate physician office workflow. Interoperability: Critical in the
ability to send and accept electronic data to other healthcare entities
such as laboratories. Security: Including the ability to
safeguard patient information and data.
The CCHIT Certified mark - an industry "seal of approval" for EHR software products - provides the first consistent, consensus-based benchmark for ambulatory products. By seeking out products with the CCHIT Certified seal, doctors and other healthcare providers can be assured they are making a safe and reliable investment, and that insurers and other payers know that their software systems meet expected industry standards.
"Physicians who purchase certified products have the assurance that they have been reviewed by a panel of judges, including practicing physicians, and that they are being evaluated against standards set by professionals in the field and successfully piloted with products from large and small companies," said Mark Leavitt, M.D., Ph.D., chair, CCHIT.
"The quality and safety of EHR products can now be measured using certification criteria that were developed specifically for that purpose."
CCHIT product certification goals include reducing the risk of HIT investment by physicians and other providers, ensuring interoperability of HIT products, enhancing the availability of HIT adoption incentives from purchasers and payers and protecting the privacy of personal health information. CCHIT's certification inspection process design and
compliance criteria have been thoroughly researched. This process and
criteria take into account current EHR standards and compare other certification
processes in other industries and countries. The inspection process is
based on real-life medical situations designed to test products rigorously
against the clinical needs of providers and the quality and safety needs
of healthcare consumers and payers.
